About
Cameron has been an avid runner for 34 years, having picked up regular running at age 7.
In high school he excelled in cross country and
track and competed regularly in summer track competitions, including the
national track meet in Seattle in 1985, where he finished 15th overall with a 4:03 1,500-meters as a 15-year-old.
In the early 1990s Cameron trained with a group of
Honolulu Athletes “The Mushrooms” who helped him complete three Honolulu
Marathons, including a best of 2:45:45 and three Oahu Perimeter Run 134-mile relays.
While attending college at University of Montana, he
scored personal bests at every distance from a mile to 10,000 meters on the
track. After college he put his efforts into running marathons and ultramarathons
and started learning the value of leaving the pavement behind. Soon trail
running became a part of his life and has been ever since.
Over the years, Cameron has completed in many road
and trail marathons including Portland, Big Sur, Marine Corps, Napa, Newport,
Boulder, and Timberline marathons and numerous road races of various distances. He also spent three years running in the Washington DC area with the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club where he ran several 50k and 50-mile trail runs.
